Dr. Ioannou is a periodontist and an implant surgeon. As a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, he is Board Certified in Periodontology and Implant Surgery. He graduated from the School of Dentistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens where he was awarded as first of his corresponding class of students with the highest distinction. At the end of his studies he received a scholarship from Onassis Institution and he moved to the USA for postgraduate studies in the field of Periodontology. There, he specialized in periodontics and implant surgery at the University of Minnesota, and he received the title of the specialist Periodontist with the highest honor. 

 

During his studies in the USA he has also received a Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota, and a Fellowship from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists at Miami, Florida. In 2017, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, after making significant achievements beyond the educational requirements of the specialty. This is the highest recognition awarded in periodontics in the USA.

He has co-authored and published numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbooks, most of them registered on PubMed. Furthermore, he frequently gives lectures to dentists and periodontists nationally and internationally on a variety of topics including periodontics and implant surgery. Dr. Ioannou is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology and the European Federation of Periodontology. During the period 2015-2016 he served as ambassador of the American Academy of Periodontology.

 

His research focuses on guided tissue regeneration techniques, soft tissue and bone graft techniques, sinus augmentation techniques for implant placement, and the use of the latest technology such as digital radiographic imaging in the field of implant surgery and periodontics.

After his studies, with the help of a strong clinical, research and academic background, Dr. Ioannou received the position of Asst. Professor at the University of Texas at Houston in the USA.

Dr. Ioannou practices with the philosophy of minimally invasive microsurgical procedures with cutting edge periodontal techniques and technologies. He also believes that educating patients about their oral health and good oral hygiene is vital for a successful long term periodontal and implant treatment. His calm and smooth chair-side manner is known to relax patients and make them feel at ease when it is time to receive therapy.
