Orthodontic Treatments

Orthodontics for Children

In some children there is need for a 1st phase of orthodontic treatment, in coordination with the dentist or pedodontist, for the prevention or the interception of some orthodontic problems which inhibit the harmonic growth of the jaws. This treatment phase takes place at children 6 to 8 years old before the eruption of all the permanent teeth, and it lasts usually 6 to 12 months. The goal during the 1st phase of orthodontic treatment is the correction of functional issues that may become skeletal problems in the future, and the correction of problems causing space issues of the permanent teeth as they erupt. After the first phase of treatment, a resting period follows, and if a second phase of treatment is needed in the future, then that second phase will be easier, faster and less expensive for the patient.

Orthodontics for Teenagers

The best time for starting orthodontic treatment in teenagers is right before loosing the last baby teeth, usually around the age of 9 to 12 years old. The goal of the orthodontic treatment in teenagers is to position the permanent teeth in the best possible esthetic and functional way in relation with the smile and the face. The cooperation of the patient during active orthodontic treatment and during maintenance phase is critical for achieving the best possible outcome in the least possible time, and for a longterm retention of the final result.

Orthodontics for Adults

Orthodontic treatment can start at any age. An adult patient, except for esthetic reasons, seeks orthodontic treatment for therapeutic reasons as well, such as periodontal, occlusion problems and temporomandibular joint problems. Usually in adult patients, discreet orthodontic ceramic appliances are used, in such a way that the appliances are almost invisible to the naked eye. Another esthetic option for the adult patient can be the customized lingual brackets or the clear aligners. New improved techniques and materials minimize the discomfort of the patient and allow to treat orthodontic problems in adults without interrupting their demanding everyday routine.

Ceramic - Clear Braces

Ceramic and clear braces immitate the natural color of teeth, and in combination with white wires, can contribute to the invisibility of these orthodontic appliances, during orthodontic treatment for teenagers and adults.

Self-Ligating Braces (Damon System)

Damon system introduces a revolutionary approach in orthodontic treatment due to the unique kind of ligation it utilizes. In contrast to the classic braces which use elastic modules, damon system uses a sliding door mechanism that secures the wire in the bracket. The most important advantage of Damon system is that patients can maintain better oral hygiene and they need less visits to complete the orthodontic treatment.

Lingual Braces (Incognito System)

New innovating tchnique where the brackets are placed on the lingual surface of the teeth, in order to be as discrete as possible. The braces are made in Germany and are customized for every patient. The incognito system is by far the most discrete individualized orthodontic technique with perfect control of tooth movement. This is because, after taking impressions of the maxillary and mandibular teeth, customized golden lingual braces are made based on the exact anatomy of the lingual surface of the teeth. During the orthodontic treatment, we use the latest technology in wires, shaped by robots with every detail, to achieve a position of the teeth with perfect esthetics and function.

Clear Aligners (Invisalign System)

New technique without braces, and the use of successive clear aligners which are used the patient it self and change every other week, for the whole treatment period. The aligners are made in the USA and shaped for the specific patient in specialized laboratories.

Orthodontic Treatment - Impacted Teeth

In cases of orthodontic treatment in the presence of impacted teeth, there is need of a surgical procedure by the Periodontist or Oral Surgeon to expose the impacted teeth together with the orthodontic treatment. Correct diagnosis and good communication between the patient, the orthodontist and the surgeon is the first and most important step towards treatment of the case.

Orthodontic Mini-implants

Orthodontic mini-implants are used during orthodontic treatment in cases of difficult and big teeth movements, and they help to minimize the treatment period. Mini-implants are placed by the periodontist on top of the gingiva without incisions or sutures. The procedure lasts only a few minutes under local anaesthesia. Mini-implants are used in order to move teeth without undesirable movement of other teeth. Removal of mini-implants is easy and fast, without the need for topical anesthesia most of the times. Healing is almost instantaneously.

Pre-Prosthetic Orthodontics

Movement or intrusion of teeth, in order to create the necessary restorative space for the dentist or the prosthodontist. In many of these cases there is no need for braces visible on the anterior teeth. Depending on the case, there is need for good treatment planning and possible use of orthodontic mini-implants.

Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics - PAOO (Wilckodontics)

In selected cases, the treatement period can be reduced dramatically, even in half, by combining the orthodontic treatment with a surgical procedure performed by the Periodontist.

Orthognathic Treatment

Sometimes there are orthodontic problems that can be solved only with the help of maxillofacial surgery. In these cases there are disportionate jaws and skeletal issues that inhibit important activities such as chewing, swallowing, breathing, and speaking with a huge impact on the esthetics of the face. Orthodontics combined with Maxillofacial Surgery can solve these issues and restore the esthetics and functionality. By using the latest digital technology in 3D imaging, the patient can see the benefit of such a treatment and maximize the clinical outcome. The advancements in materials such as titanium mini-screws and mini-plates, used by the maxillofacial surgeon, provide the best possible outcome and longevity to the final result. All these advancements in technology, help the doctors provide the best possible clinical outcome, in cases that orthodontic treatment can not solve these skeletal problems on its own.
